Privacy policy

Kanakana is made by one person, funclosure. It collects nothing about you. This page says exactly what it keeps, where, and what it never does.

What stays on your device

Kanakana keeps your progress on your iPhone or iPad: which kana you have started and learnt, your answers and the days you gave them, the review schedule, and your settings. None of it is sent anywhere. It is not synced to iCloud or to any server, and deleting the app deletes it.

What Kanakana never does

• No account and no sign-in.
• No analytics, no advertising and no tracking of any kind. There are no third-party SDKs in the app.
• Nothing you write is stored. The writing board reads your handwriting on the device, and the drawing is gone when you clear the sheet.

Sound

The kana are spoken from recordings inside the app. Where a recording is missing, the system’s own speech voice on your device is used. Nothing is streamed.

Purchases

The one-time purchase, 五十音, is handled by Apple through the App Store. Kanakana never sees your payment details or your Apple Account; it only asks StoreKit, on the device, whether the purchase has been made.

The beta

If you test Kanakana through TestFlight, Apple shares with the developer what TestFlight always shares: crash reports, the feedback and screenshots you choose to send, and basic device information such as the model and system version. They are used only to fix the app.

This website

learnkanakana.app sets no cookies and runs no analytics. Every file it uses is served from its own address. Its host, Cloudflare, keeps the ordinary request logs any web server keeps.

Children

Because nothing is collected, Kanakana is safe for learners of any age.
